Expectations

They can give you a glimpse of a wonderful future, a future of how things will be once you climb that mountain. But, what happens when you reach the top of the climb and what you see are not those green pastures that you expected but rather another larger more difficult mountain to scale?

Expectations can cripple you.

Hey Dream Team, welcome to episode 108 of Comics Manifest and today we have a very special guest, award winning cartoonist, Simon Roy.

He is the co-creator of the Image Comics series Prophet, creator of the graphic novel Jan’s Atomic Heart, and the comic series Habitat.

During this interview Simon and I dive into his experiences in university, art school, breaking into the industry, and how he built his network.

It’s an inspiring chat and he shares a lesson I think many of you who are in school currently or thinking about going to school should pay attention to.

Click to Tweet: James Wright inspires creators on Comics Manifest podcast

If only I was prepared…

This phrase is linked to an early experience James had on his creative journey, I’m sure if you think about it you’ve experienced something that made you feel the same way. The difference is what James did to take action on that lesson.

Hey Dream Team, welcome to episode 107 of Comics Manifest. In this episode we are joined by special guest James Wright. James is a comics book writer and creator of comics including The Geek Zodiac and Nutmeg.

In this interview James and I talk about how his love for comics compelled him to travel across the world, how to find collaborators, and he also tells us the piece of advice that Steve Lieber gave him that changed everything.

An Obsession To Create

Over 100 interviews and their is one string that connect all creators together, this need, obsession to create things. Whether its a comic, piece of music, animation, podcast, video, movie, it seems like in order to take your passion to the next level you need to be fully saturated and obsess over it.

Today’s guest Dave Chisholm is a musician and cartoonist and talks all about his journeys through the worlds of comics and music, the similarities and differences between those two worlds and how healthy obsession between both music and comics converged into his mixed media project, Instrumental.

Instrumental is a graphic novel plus soundtrack all about Dave’s two passions, music and comics. Dave holds a doctorate in Jazz Trumpet and has such an interested perspective on creativity, music, originality, and self worth, topics that he explores in his amazing graphic novel.

Dave has such an incredible journey to share to get ready and be sure to let Dave know you enjoyed this episode. Also some of Dave’s music was used to score this episode so be sure to check out his project and get his Graphic Novel and original sound track today.
